Everyone is talking about the economy. I don’t care where you go. The grocery store, the media, in the coffee shops, in the living room, in the dinning room, in the break room at work, everybody is talking about it. Now I am not an economist and there are a lot of things that I don’t understand about the economy.
I do have a question. Where did all the money go? Where is it? What happened to the money? Remember the commercial for Wendy’s? “Where’s the beef”? My question is “Where’s the money”? I know the money didn’t get piled up and set on fire. I know it didn’t vanish. I know some companies have gone under but they still had billions of dollars of assets and some cash. What happened to the cash? What happened to the assets? I know the earth didn’t open up and swallow all the assets. Ok, some of us lost some of our money. If you were fortunate enough you had a portfolio and your money was in mutual funds, if you are like me, you may have lost 25% to 30% of your money. If you played in the stock market you may have lost up to 50% or maybe you have lost everything, depending on where your money was invested.
Why is it that people are not spending money? Let’s look at it this way. If you are working for someone and they are paying you a check and you get a check every week. Maybe you have $5,000.00 in the bank, it didn’t go anywhere, you didn’t loose anything on that money. Why is it that people are not spending that money? Why is it that people are still getting a paycheck but not buying more?
What is going on in the economy? I believe it is fear! Fear is the reason all this is going on. We are paralyzed both emotionally and mentally. We are in a state of inertia. We are not moving at all. A state of inertia when it comes to our money, I can understand that. A state of inertia when it comes to our dreams, I don’t understand this. I don’t get it. Why is it that people are putting their dreams on hold? I know this is a time to put your money on hold but what about your dreams? What about your plans? What about your vision? What about your goals? Why do you have to put them on hold? I don’t understand.
If you own a small business, I know you are hurting. I can sympathize with you because I am a small business owner myself. I know people are not spending their money at the small businesses. Small businesses are feeling the impact more so than any other group of people. Let me say this. The problem is not in the economy. The problem is not in the debt issue that is going on. The problem is that it is happening in our mind!
Everything you have, like your business, is because of the law of “cause and effect”. Basically the “Cause” is your mind and the “Effect” is what you are experiencing.
People are creating things, in their mind, that are not really happening. As a result of that they are afraid and putting themselves in a state of inertia. They are not taking any action. I was speaking with a fellow internet marketer the other day and we spoke for about 20 minutes and the subject of the economy never came up once. He kept talking about how well his business was doing and how much money he was making. He made no mention of people not spending any money. You know why that never came up. Because he is not focusing on that. He is too busy following his plan, strategies, dreams and goals. He doesn’t have time to worry about the economy.
You don’t have to participate in a bad economy! It is the choice you make. I’m not saying that it won’t be difficult at times. I understand what is going on, I understand the impact of what is going on. You know that during the depression there were a lot of people that became very wealthy. They made a lot of money. Do you know why? Because they did not put their dreams, their goals their aspirations on hold. They instead began looking for new opportunities. Yes, new opportunities are surfacing right now. They don’t look like the old opportunities. If you are looking for the old opportunities, they are changing.
What I’m saying is, be vigilant, open your eyes and keep pressing on, keep applying, keep working on your dreams and they will show up. So now you will be like the people that capitalized and took advantage of the Great Depression. I truly believe what is going on is in our minds, it is a state of mind. No condition is permanent. This economy is not going to stay in this condition. It may even get worse but it will rebound. When the economy does rebound, will it find you stuck in your mindset? Or will your mindset be open to capture the new opportunities that will surface?
