Offline Business Building: Drop Cards

September 18th, 2009 by John

Advertizing With Drop CardsDrop Card marketing is a powerful offline technique that has generated tons of leads for me.

What are Drop Cards?  They are folded business cards that look like $100.00 bills.

When someone opens the Drop Card they find a message and my website address.

My message says “Dissapointed?  Don’t Be.  I can show you how to make 25- 30 real ones every month”  WWW.InternetAutoWealth.com

The finder of my Drop Card will then go to my website where they will see a video of me with a Drop Card and my opt-in page.  Once they opt-in I have their info on my list so I can continue to drip marketing information to them every week.

If your asking how do you get Drop Cards into potential prospects hands?  Here are some of the best ways I found:

Newspaper Machines:  Every morning I go hit different newspaper machines around town.  I put my money in and I have access to every newspaper in the machine.  I then place a drop card in every newspaper in the machine.  When they open the newspaper a $100.00 bill falls out.

Gas Stations:  I will place a Drop Card in the credit card reader of the pump.  I don’t fill up at one gas station, I’ll stop at three or four gas stations on days my car needs a fill up.

Book Stores:  I walk to the Home Business and Self Improvement section and place a Drop Card in the most popular books.  I have gotten the best results by placing the Drop Card in “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill.

Junk Mail:  Everyone gets junk mail.  Well most of the junk mail comes with a postage paid return envelope.  I place the drop card in the envelope and put it in the mail box.  Remember to wrap a piece of paper around the Drop Card so it doesn’t show through the envelope.  Real people actually open the envelopes in mail rooms.  I have gotten many leads using this method.

Restaurants:  Waiters and waitresses pull the biggest response.  I will mix a Drop Card in with their tip.  Most wait people are in a transition period, like going to school or part time work and probably looking for something else. That might be the reson for the huge response from this technique.

Just Drop:  Everywhere I go I drop my Drop Cards.  Aisles in the grocery store, parking lots, airports, basically anywhere there are people.

This is an effective offline strategy that YOU can add to YOUR arsenal!

  • John,

I'm getting ready to start using drop cards as well as some of your strategies you mentioned as well. I've been primarily and internet marketing and I'm looking to get back into some offline stuff.

    Great stuff!

    - Yo
  • Yo,

I've been watching you for some time and you are the master of internet marketing! At least for me I have to integrate both on line and offline. I do get better results when I personally hand the card to a prospect. I have found that 50% of the ones I give personally will at least subscribe to my blog.

  • John,

Classic approaches and new ones mixed in together! Love it man.

See, it is stuff like that that keeps people going and motivates them to look an not just online strategies.

Glad to see your blog working well for you man.

    God Bless,

  • Kathy,
The drop cards do work quite well. Of course you have to put a lot out to get a few good people.

    John
  • It seems to me that the ones in our back office are a little pricey, is that were you got yours?
    Kathy
  • Awesome offline tactic John,
I really love slipping them in the ATM and other vending machines.
I have really gotten bold and put them right next to strangers when I'm out and about.

Offline must be combined with online to get overall marketing results.

    Thanks,
    ~Bert
  • Bert,

That is funny! I haven't done the vending machines. Thanks for the tip.

    Hey John,
Thanks for sharing about the dropcards. I have been using them with good success. It is one of those processes that separate the "doers" from the "should doers". It's cheap and it works but, as you state, it does require commitment.

Keep posting info like this & I will keep coming back.

    To Your Continued Success,
    Bill
  • Bill,

You are right, like any other marketing you have to be consistent to make it work. I know you are a doer Bill and that is why I visit your blog as well.

    John
  • I need to order mine ASAP! I can't wait to start driving around town and start using this strategy. I never thought about the newspaper machine or the gas stations!

    Thanks:)

  • Katherine,

My favorite is the prepaid envelopes in junk mail. Now I look forward to getting junk mail and dropping my drop cards in them and sending them back.

  • John,
Good thing you brought this blog post today.I actually purchased my first batch this morning, can't wait to get my hands on those drop cards and start promoting...
  • Carlos,

They are a great tool. When someone asks for a business card and pull those out of my pocket they always get a reaction. They always ask where I get them, of course I give them my affiliate link.

I love my dropcards John. Super fun strategy. It is great to see where you can "drop" and I love to watch the people pick them up. Also, like you said about the kids. They think it is the coolest thing in the world. They go around dropping them for me. They are my little outsourcing strategy.

    Great Post

  • Jeff,
