Black Belt Training: Life Lesson Learned

September 16th, 2009 by John

My children are working on getting their Black Belt Training in Mixed Martial Arts.  Well yesterday they had to perform in front of a panel of Black Belt judges who critiqued every move they made.  They were judged on form, sharpness, focus.  It was a very intense time for the children.  Some parents had a hard time watching their children being put through the paces.  To attain the rank of Black Belt much is required, they don’t just hand them out because you show up to every class.

As I was watching the children go through this, I realized how this applies to our business.  We can not obtain a Black Belt bank account just for showing up at every meeting.  It is a process of training, researching, trial, commitment, time.

After the evaluation the Sensi had the children kneel and he asked them questions.  “Do you think you done your best?”  Not one child raised their hand.  “Did you practice at home at least ten minutes a day?”  No one raised their hands.  “How many played video games everyday?”  Everyone raised their hands.

The children were eached handed a folded letter.  Sensi explained that the children were to open the letter and read the evaluation, then show the letter to the parents. At the top of the letter was either Pass or Fail.  Out of fifteen students only three passed.  My daughter passed but my son did not.  The difference between my son and daughter is this.  I will catch my daughter on our back patio practicing her focus forms, kicks, punches, stance and hitting the bag.  My son I will catch on the trampoline, shooting his paintball gun or playing video games.

I was not surprised by the results.  Are you surprised by the results your are achiving in your business?  Are you practicing on a daily basis? Are you reading training material?  Are you learning how to talk to your leads?  Are you learning how to improve your Google ranking?  What are you doing to get your Black Belt in marketing?

Focus on building your business to become a Black Belt marketer!
